Absurdity

Picked up the rain barrel today. Got it all hooked up, all nice and proper, did a pretty good job if I say so myself. We went to Mom's to drop her barrel off, and when we got back the barrel was full and overflowing through the overflow hose. The barrel holds 220 litres of water, that was just in a few hours. I was not quite expecting it to fill up so fast. That would be just over 35 flushes of our toilet. The more I think about it, the more a gray water system for our toilet would work well, get another few rain barrels and hook it up for the water going into out toilet. My only concern would be the water would freeze in the winter, so there would have to be a way to switch back onto city water at that point. It's nice knowing all that water is staying away from the foundation of our house now, and the basement didn't get nearly as wet as it usually does.
