If you can afford the bare minimum it costs you "deserve" it, though I don't like that term deserve it, everyone deserves to treat themselves to luxuries now and then, regardless of social economical status. That's the literal cost, tips are nice extra that is culturally expected, but not required.
It gets me really angry when people say the poor can't "afford" to eat out if they can't tip, they are on a much tighter budget, they do what they can, that 15% to you is huge to them. Everyone deserves luxuries, feels the same as shaming those on welfare for having a phone or fridge.
